‘The Remembering’ a prophetic word.
“God spoke a two part prophetic word to me during our preparation for ‘The Hoping’ in May 2025. This word, ‘The Remembering’ was His answer when I posed the question: ‘what comes before hoping, God?’.” Roanna
“I cried out to God for help;
I cried out to God to hear me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord;
at night I stretched out untiring hands,
and I would not be comforted.
I remembered you, God, and I groaned;
I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.
You kept my eyes from closing;
I was too troubled to speak.
I thought about the former days,
the years of long ago;
I remembered my songs in the night.
My heart meditated and my spirit asked:
“Will the Lord reject forever?
Will he never show his favour again?
Has his unfailing love vanished forever?
Has his promise failed for all time?
Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he in anger withheld his compassion?”
Then I thought, “To this I will appeal:
the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.
I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
I will consider all your works
and meditate on all your mighty deeds.”
Our brains, so soft and malleable. Full of paths, trodden throughout our lives. Paths shaped, carved, plotted by the stories of our days.
Our thoughts take those paths. They take the paths of least resistance. Not the right path, the holy path, the path they should. They take the easiest path. We are human, after all.
The hope, the wonderful truth, though, is that those paths can be replotted. Routes forged anew. The brain’s wiring redirected.
Redirected, away from fear, towards hope.
Away from anxiety towards peace.
Intrusive thoughts, that come like a thief in the night, banished.
Fears that whisper as you rest, silenced.
“I thought about the former days, the years of long ago”
“Then I thought, to this I will appeal: the years when the most high stretched out his right hand.”
Thinking about the former days.
Commencing a great remembering…
A remembering of all He’s done and all He is.
A remembering of His goodness and His faithfulness.
When all is black, fears intrude, your shoulders feel heavy and hopeless. Purpose lost and identity shredded.
Remember.
Start remembering.
It’s the remembering that starts the rewiring.
It’s the remembering that lays a new path.
An easy path. Easy and light.
Every time we remember, every step taken with the lightness and energy of remembering forges a new connection in our brains.
Every remembering step remaking us
Every remembering step rewiring us
Every remembering step redirecting us
Away from fear, towards hope
Away from anxiety, toward peace.
Remember who it is you’re remembering.
You’re not recalling a good day, a cherished memory.
No, you’re remembering He who made it all.
You’re remembering, right down to the dust that formed your bones.
Right back to the air in your lungs.
You’re remembering yourself back to life.
Remembering who you are. What you are. Whose you are.
Do not forget. The ferocity, jealously, sovereignty of the God you are remembering.
“The waters saw you, God,
the waters saw you and writhed;
the very depths were convulsed.
The clouds poured down water,
the heavens resounded with thunder;
your arrows flashed back and forth.
Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind,
your lightning lit up the world;
the earth trembled and quaked.
Your path led through the sea,
your way through the mighty waters,
though your footprints were not seen.”
Do not look back to Egypt. Do not look back to slavery.
Do not repave those paths of oppression.
Remember all the way back. To the spirit over the water, the very same one in you today.
Remember His goodness, His kindness, His faithfulness.
Remembering….it’s the first step to Hoping.
